Work on a Shipley road to fill “dangerous” excavations left over from gas main works has been carried out after residents complained.
Residents in Kendall Avenue had said plastic barriers around the holes in a footpath off their road were too flimsy and a hazard for the “hundreds of people” who use the footpath daily and had wanted Northern Gas Networks to fill them in as a matter of urgency.
Engineers were in the area to install a new main and, after two weeks and moving on to the end of the road near Moorhead Lane, seemed to have forgotten to come back and fill them, said resident John Bromley, who complained about it to NGN.
Shipley Councillor Martin Love (Green), who also reported the holes to Bradford Council’s highways department, said he was happy to hear NGN had finished the job off.
“All credit to them for jumping to it when concerns were raised and getting the job done. It shouldn’t have been left in that state in the first place, but I’m pleased it’s sorted now."
Ian Cunningham, NGN customer operations area manager, said work in the area would be completed and all excavations backfilled and reinstated by Wednesday.
