by Julie Tickner Bradford Chief Reporter Another high street name has signed-up to take a store in Bradford’s new shopping centre.

Developer Westfield and investors Meyer Bergman yesterday announced that Boots will be one of the retailers in The Broadway development in the city centre. The new Boots UK store, with a floor space of more than 18,000sq ft, will join a growing list of major UK retailers at the site, including ‘anchors’ Debenhams and Marks & Spencer along with Next, Topshop, Topman, River Island, WH Smith and Sainsbury’s Local. The leader of Bradford Council, Councillor David Green, said: “The announcement of Boots is another major step forward for the Broadway shopping centre.

“The start of construction has seen the creation of local construction jobs and the shopping centre will play a key role in our regeneration plans for Bradford.”

Construction of the new Broadway shopping centre started earlier this year and has a targeted opening of late 2015. The completed 570,000 sq ft centre will feature more than 70 high street fashion, food and lifestyle brands as well as restaurants, cafes and 1,300 car parking spaces. Food chains opening in the centre include KFC, Burger King and Hey Potato.

Westfield's Director of Operations Bill Giouroukos said: “2014 has seen a strong start to the year for the Broadway shopping centre with the commencement of construction and the signing of Boots UK.

“The Broadway shopping centre now has retailer commitments for more than 50 per cent of its floor space, reflecting retailers’ strong demand for the centre and the opening will dramatically enhance the shopping experience in Bradford.”

Area Manager for Boots UK Zak Laher said: “We have over 160 years of healthcare and beauty expertise, so our customers can expect the very best from us.” It is not yet clear if Boots will be relocating one its three current Bradford stores into the Broadway shopping centre, or if the new store will be an extra one.
