Fairtrade campaigners are calling for Bradford Council support to ensure Keighley remains a Fairtrade Town.
They will ask the Council’s Keighley Area Committee on Thursday to pledge staff time to help with Fairtrade projects.
Keighley gained Fairtrade status last October after demonstrating it had support from local councils, businesses, community organisations and schools.
This meant that Fairtrade products – which provide a fair price to growers and manufacturers in developing countries – were on sale locally. Keighley’s Fairtrade steering group must this October provide evidence of how Fairtrade Keighley has developed. The group is asking for staff to sit on the steering group and provide help with Fairtrade activities.
