A Keighley man with a broken leg who said two hospitals failed to diagnose his injury is still waiting for an operation.

Colin Wilson, 31, a self-employed web designer from Braithwaite, was seriously hurt in an accident while visiting friends in Hull on February 9.

When he attended Hull Royal Infirmary two days later he said he was refused an x-ray and pain relief – and was given a pair of crutches to help him struggle home.

He managed to return to Keighley after a friend gave him a lift, only for his broken leg to be missed again later that day – this time at Airedale Hospital. It was eventually diagnosed a week later.

He attended Airedale for an operation on February 19, but said he ended up discharging himself after the surgery was repeatedly delayed, leaving him unable to eat or drink for nearly 17 hours.

Airedale has since apologised to Mr Wilson for a “breakdown in communication”, but added that once his injury was detected he was x-rayed and immediately referred to an orthopaedic specialist.

Hull Royal Infirmary said it could not comment due to patient confidentiality.
