A mum is running a half marathon for a hospital charity to thank staff who looked after her daughter.

Claire Broad, 34, will be pounding the streets on May 11 in the Leeds Half Marathon to raise money for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity.

Mrs Broad, who teaches part-time at Westbourne Primary School in Manningham, went to the Child Development Centre at Bradford Royal Infirmary after worrying her daughter Matilda, now 15 months, was not developing walking and talking skills.

“We were worried she was a late developer and there might be a muscular problem but a MRI scan showed everything was clear, thank goodness. She has come on in leaps and bounds since Christmas. It looks as though she was just doing everything in her own time,” she said.

But Mrs Broad said being at the development centre made her realise how lucky she was.

“Our worries with Matilda were nothing really compared to other people who were there. We feel so fortunate to have a healthy daughter that I wanted to do something to say thank you to the centre and help others who are helped by them,” she said.
