Kiosks demolished to make way for Westfield scheme in Bradford

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: The scene in Broadway The scene in Broadway

A shopping street in Bradford city centre which will lead to the Westfield Broadway shopping centre has been opened up with the demolition of two kiosks.

A demolition firm has been flattening the former Timpson and Greggs units in Broadway. A spokesman for Bradford Council said: “The kiosks were demolished as part of improvements to Broadway.”

The £260 million Westfield shopping centre, which will include high street names such as Next, Marks & Spencer, River Island and Debenhams, is under construction and is due to open in December, 2015.

Please explain how the removal of the kiosks either improves or 'opens up' Broadway.
They can't have been more than 12 feet wide- how many people are they expecting to rush down Broadway when Westfield opens?

I may be a cynical old fool, but this story reads like another random excuse to mention the disappointing array of store signed up.

Can they make sure they actually build something before they knock anything else down. I fail to see how this is important at this time.

Finally! So glad they got rid of these kiosks, they have been an eyesore for ages, especially the one outside HMV which has been in a derelict state for years.

I think they were a bit ahead of themselves with this story considering as of today 6 March only one kiosk has so far demolished and the area of the former has yet to be resurfaced and is still cordoned off. The other kiosk outside HMV is still standing up to press as an eyesore.
