Ilkley MP hits out at rise in parish council precept

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Kris Hopkins MP Kris Hopkins MP

Ilkley Parish Council’s proposed precept rise of 22 per cent has been branded “the wrong call at the wrong time” by the town’s MP.

The rise will see a band D Property go from paying £19.60 to £24.04 a year, which MP Kris Hopkins said would generate deep anger.

The Conservative-led parish council overall budget for 2014 to 2015 is to rise from almost £154,000 to £185,600 – with £20,000 set aside for Tour de France spending, £7,000 for the drafting of a Neighbour-hood Plan and a £7,000 rise in the Council’s Awards and Projects pot.

Parish council chairman Councillor Mike Gibbons said: “Ilkley Parish Council is setting a precept that it feels is required.”

Maybe if Mr Hopkins had spent more time in the constituency he'd have grounds to comment
