MP David Ward has written to a minister with concerns about Government plans to cut funding for adult students.
In December, the Education Funding Agency (EFA) announced a planned cut in the funding rate from £4,000 to £3,300 for full-time further education students aged 18 or over.
Mr Ward (Lib Dem, Bradford East) has now written to the Minister for Skills and Enterprise, Matthew Hancock MP to highlight his concerns about the move.
He said: “I have deep concerns regarding these cuts and the effects that this will have on hundreds of students across Bradford.
“The reductions will disproportionately affect those studying vocational courses and black and minority ethnic students, who often require a greater degree of support to continue in education or training.”
The Liberal Democrat MP said he had been contacted by the principal of Bradford College, Michele Sutton, who said the cut would affect about 750 students, who would stand to lose a combined £600,000 worth of funding.
