Bradford East MP David Ward yesterday welcomed amendments to a Government bill which he says will support 2,000 vulnerable residents who had their care cut.
The Liberal Democrat MP said changes proposed by Paul Burstow, Liberal Democrat MP for Sutton and Cheam, would introduce a “more generous eligibility criteria” when the new National Minimum Eligibility criteria comes into force in 2015.
His amendments would introduce a lower threshold than has been proposed by the Department of Health, lowering it from ‘substantial’ to ‘moderate’, meaning that hundreds of thousands of people across the country would be eligible for care and support from their local Councils.
Mr Ward said: “This is a change that I have been campaigning for a long time so I very much welcome Paul’s amendments.”
