Saltaire Post Office may soon be run alongside real ales and fine wines in an off licence if new proposals get popular approval.

The Post Office wants to move from its position in Bingley Road and into Saltaire Wines, which it says would create a modern, open-plan branch with extended opening hours.

And Post Office decision makers are inviting customers and interested parties to comment on the change.

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 9pm on Sunday, 41 hours more than at present.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for Central England, Adrian Wales said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to residents in Saltaire and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future. The proposed changes to the branch are part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Shipley MP Philip Davies urged Saltaire residents to get involved in the discussion process.

He said: “I would encourage local residents to take part in the consultation.”

The consultation will close on February 18.
