Let's Grow Keighley urges landowners to take advantage of funding
9:00am Wednesday 30th October 2013 in News
Campaigners wanting to increase the amount of woodland in the Aire Valley to help reduce flooding have highlighted the funding on offer to help landowners plant trees.
A spokesman for Let’s Grow Keighley said: “There are other benefits to restoring woodland cover in the Aire Valley, including increased biodiversity, recreational and economic and employment opportunities.
“Forest of Bradford is keen to reach landowners to encourage them to participate in the planting scheme. The grant available for the flood prevention zones is £4,800 per hectare.
“In addition, outside these zones grants for tree planting are £2,800 per hectare, and there are smaller grants available for smaller schemes.”
On Saturday, Forest of Bradford will celebrate being half-way to its target of having a million new trees planted.
The occasion takes place at Myddleton Grange, Ilkley, between 10am and 3pm.
