Kala Sangam celebrated its 20th anniversary with representatives of organisations that have supported the Bradford-based arts company over the years.
The company, which offers programmes in education, youth arts, health and dance, held an anniversary lunch at St Peter’s House in Forster Square, attended by patrons the Earl of Harewood and Bollywood star Dr Vyjayanthimala Bali as well as trustees, business representatives and other supporters.
The celebrations continue at St George’s Hall tonight with KS20 Extravaganza, a show featuring dancers and musicians from around the world.
Chief executive Dr Geetha Upadhyaya, who set up Kala Sangam from a room in her home in 1993, said: “This is a hub for Bradford’s rich cultural diversity. We aim to promote greater understanding and appreciation of cultural traditions of South Asia, but we are also here for the wider community.”
