Bingley's upgraded Post Office will open more hours
Bingley Post Office will open for an extra five hours every Saturday after it has a refurbishment next month.
The Post Office is modernising branches across the country and has promised a “modern open-plan” new look for Main Street.
The re-fit will take place between Monday, November 4, and Saturday, November 16, when it will re-open at 1pm.
Following that, the post office will be open until 5.30pm, instead of 12.30pm, every Saturday.
The honorary president of Bingley Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Howard Martin, yesterday said he and town centre manager Bob Parker had been discussing the benefits of shops changing their hours to be open in evenings.
“I suppose in a way, this ties in with that. If people can only get in on weekends because they’re working Monday to Friday, then extending the hours on a Saturday makes it more convenient and easier for them,” Mr Martin said.
“The one thing that it can do is bring more people in to Bingley, and if it brings them in on a Saturday, rather than a quick 20-minute stop mid-week, then they’ve got a bit more leisure time to hopefully spend time browsing the other shops and other things.”
Post Office regional network manager for central England Adrian Wales said: “We understand how important Bingley Post Office is to people in the area and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a three-year investment programme.”
Bingley councillor David Heseltine (Con) said: “Investment in Bingley is welcomed, which I am sure will be well worth the short period of inconvenience while the work takes place.”
