Silsden woman stages fundraising stall to pay for road repairs
10:00am Tuesday 8th October 2013 in News
A pensioner ran a stall outside her house through the summer to raise money for road repairs.
Joan Brown, of Silsden, sold items donated by neighbours to pay the cost of filling potholes in unadopted Spencer Avenue.
She raised £700 standing by the stall five days a week for three months. The money, along with £1,000 from Bradford Council, funded the repair of the first of many holes on the avenue. Joan, 76, and husband Clifford are among householders who formed a residents’ association to campaign for repairs.
Coun Andrew Mallinson, who represents Silsden on Bradford Council, secured £1,500 to kickstart the group and pay for some repairs.
