Next phase of Otley power supply work starts
4:59pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
The next phase of a £1.2 million investment in the power supply serving Otley is about to get under way.
The programme, being carried out by electricity distributor Northern Powergrid, is seeing the town’s electricity network enhanced with old overhead and underground power cables being replaced.
Work on the project, which started in March 2012, will now see low voltage cables serving Westgate being renewed with work being carried out by contractors Morrison Utility Services on Northern Powergrid’s behalf.
Mile Golubovic , project engineer, said: “This investment programme will improve the reliability of the power supply serving Otley and is proceeding well with this next phase in Westgate about to begin.
"We would like to thank residents and local businesses for their patience and understanding while the work on this project has been underway.
"We do realise that it may have caused some inconvenience, but once completed, it will give the town a power supply that’s more reliable and better able to meet future demand for electricity.”
This phase of work will begin on Monday, October 7 and the majority of it will affect the footpath. Stop/Go boards will be in operation from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 5.30pm during weekends.
The work is expected to be complete on November 5.
