Bradford councillor’s warning on Mecca trips
7:30am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
Bradford residents booking their Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca have been urged to use a reputable travel agent.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards has produced a leaflet for those planning to make the trip to Saudi Arabia, following complaints from people who have previously booked Hajj packages, and court cases elsewhere in the country. Trading Standards said that consumers have in the past raised concerns about poor quality and that rogue agents have taken pilgrims’ money and disappeared.
Councillor Bill Urry, of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee, said: “There are unscrupulous tour operators that deliberately target the Muslim community. These air tour operators do not have a licence and are breaking the law. Consumers need to be aware, and make sure that they ask for the ATOL number when making inquiries.
