THE Bradford & District Union of Golf Clubs have their first non-Alliance tournament of the year this weekend.

The 9-Hole Clubs Team Championship takes place tomorrow at East Bierley Golf Club off the white tees, with 28 entries currently.

South Bradford are likely to go into the event as favourites, having won both the 2021 and 2023 editions.

But Clayton look set to provide stiff opposition, as winners of the competition in 2019 and 2022.

The 9-Hole is the first of two major team tournaments this month, with the Junior Team Championship being held at Northcliffe Golf Club on Wednesday, May 29.

Golf courses in the district have naturally suffered of late due to the unseasonal wet weather.

The decision has therefore been taken to postpone the start of the Bradford Union’s scratch league until Friday, May 31.

And the Inter Club Fourball Championship, which was due to take place on Sunday, April 28 at Branshaw Golf Club, has now been moved to Sunday, June 2, at the same venue.

The Second Division Team Championship, which was scheduled to be held at The Manor Golf Club last Sunday, has now been moved to Sunday, August 4, at the same venue.

In view of how late in the season that competition is now going to be played, the follow up Knockout (Handicap Matchplay) will now be run with the top four clubs on the day playing two rounds prior to the final.

That final will be held at Keighley Golf Club on Sunday, September 15.
