THE owner of a Bradford community garden has spoken of her shock following a break-in.

Wibsey Community Garden, located in Wibsey Park, was targeted over the Easter Bank Holiday.

Staff were devastated to learn a window had been smashed and items were stolen when they returned to the site on Tuesday morning.

West Yorkshire Police say they are investigating a burglary at that location on that date.

"We were all really shocked," owner Jen White said.

"It was really surprising to see the damage.

"They stole some basic stuff from our canteen and the scrap magic store."

The garden works closely with local primary schools and the community in the local area.

Jen added: "The rest of the site wasn't damaged. They smashed a window to get into the scrape store which we are now in the process of replacing.

"We don't keep valuable things on the site overnight. There is no opportunity to take money.

"I have no idea why someone would want to break in."

The community garden fully reopened on Friday afternoon after "fantastic volunteers" cleaned up the mess.
